In 2026, budget and business hotels are abandoning front desk staff. The lobby turns into a 'self-service zone.' But absence of people shouldn't mean coldness. We explore how to design Check-in kiosks that look like art objects, not ATMs. How to use warm light, music, and navigation to make the guest feel welcome, even if 'Welcome' is said by a voice assistant.
Kiosk as Furniture
We hide screens in wood and fabric. The registration kiosk is an elegant console, not a plastic booth. It is integrated into the wall architecture or stands as a sculpture in the center. The interface is intuitive (Zero UI), often voice or gesture-controlled. Nearby is always a 'Help Desk' zone with video link to a remote operator appearing on a big screen if a problem arises.
Robots and Logistics
Dance of Machines
The lobby is designed with 'robot roads' in mind. Flooring must be smooth and threshold-free for suitcase bots and food delivery units. Bot charging stations are integrated into baseboards and invisible. It's a choreography of technology: a robot hands you a key card, a robot takes your coat. This is a show that entertains guests.
